Your Hostess, Genevieve Manion

Genevieve Manion is a New York-based amateur Victorian historian, and hostess of My Victorian Nightmare and Dark Poetry. Her approach to historical story telling and poetry is grounded in a deep affection for human beings; their struggles, their joys, their lives, their deaths and the ways they affectionately hold onto memories of those passed. â€‹

Genevieve first dreamt of creating a spooky podcast about the Victorian era in April, 2024 during a difficult transition in her life. She wanted to return to her goth roots, where she felt most like herself, most inspired and joyful.

Growing up in the New York goth scene in the late 1900s and early 2000s, she acquired a love for the beautifully macabre, dark Victorian history and poetry, and synth pop, of corse. Today, she's an elder goth, gabbing giddily about her favorite era, and the bizarre, fabulous, terrifying, exquisite, haunting, fascinating themes of the time. Not much has changed.

The first episode of My Victorian Nightmare was published in June of 2024, and quickly gained a passionate following. Genevieve decided to create another podcast, Dark Poetry, in January of that year to tickle her own darkly romantic, poetic fancy.

With these 2 podcasts, Genevieve set out to create work that she could be proud of, that would, above all, educate her further in the era she finds so fascinating – when she began, she had no idea how many other people would share her love and passion for the darkness of the 1800s, or if anyone would want to listen at all. Nothing has been more gratifying than sharing this love with others who find it as strangely comforting as she does.
